What the Grant Checker Does
Most homeowners never claim grants they qualify for, simply because the schemes are spread across the SEAI and 31 different local authorities and nobody tells you which one fits your situation. Irish Electrical Grants — Common Questions
Can I get a grant for a house rewire?
Sometimes, depending on who you are and the property. There is no general rewiring grant for the average homeowner. But if you're 66 or older and the work is essential, Housing Aid for Older People (run by your local authority and means-tested) can cover rewiring and electrical repairs. If you're bringing a vacant or derelict home back into use, the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant commonly covers a rewire as part of the refurbishment. And if rewiring forms part of a disability adaptation, the Housing Adaptation Grant for People with a Disability can cover the electrical works. Does the SEAI EV grant cover the charger or just the cabling?
The SEAI Electric Vehicle Home Charger Grant is worth €300 toward the purchase and installation of a home charger. It's a fixed contribution toward the overall cost — it isn't split into 'charger' versus 'cabling'. To qualify you generally need to be the homeowner, have off-street parking where the unit can be wall-mounted, and use an SEAI-registered installer. We handle the SEAI paperwork as part of the install. Confirm the current grant amount and conditions on the SEAI website before you apply.
Do I have to give my details to use this tool?
No. The grant checker shows your full result on screen with no name, email or phone number required. The only time you'd share your details is if you choose to ask us for a quote on the electrical works afterwards — and that's entirely optional.
Who actually approves and pays the grant?
The SEAI administers the EV home charger grant nationally. The Housing Aid for Older People, Housing Adaptation and Vacant Property Refurbishment grants are administered by your local authority. We're the electrical contractor who carries out the covered works — we can't approve or pay a grant, but we can do the rewiring, consumer-unit upgrade or EV charger install the grant is meant to fund, and certify it to IS 10101.
